Lagom (adv.): pronounced ['lɑːɡɔm], a Swedish word meaning 'simple-perfect' or 'just the right amount'. The phrase "lagom är bäst" is often used to mean 'just the right amount is perfect' or 'enough is as good as a feast".
Lagom Food Services, LLC was started in 2018 by Lake and Linnea Hubbard. Lake and Linnea have spent a combined 35 years in the hospitality industry, Lake as a celebrated local chef, and Linnea as a guest services professional.
Lake was born and raised in Bloomington, and grew up in his family’s restaurant, the renowned Uptown Cafe. An athlete through college (and two-time NCAA champion with Indiana University Men’s Soccer Team), Lake understands hard work and dedication. His passion for cuisine deepened while traveling Japan and South America, and back in Bloomington, Lake worked his way up from dishwasher to head chef at the Uptown, a position he held for 7 years and during which time he facilitated the new, refined Uptown menu. He has also lent his talents to opening a new Asian fusion restaurant, 22 Bistro and Bar, in Lake Tahoe, California. In the last year, he has acted as a restaurant consultant, and as the Executive Chef at Alchemy, a new high end restaurant and bar in Bloomington. In 2016 and 2017, Lake won the Bloomington Chef Challenge, and acted as a judge for the 2018 competition. In his free time, Lake enjoys alpine skiing, playing and producing music, coaching youth soccer, and exploring the vast American wilderness.
Linnea was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she started her career as a young actor. She moved to Seattle, Washington to pursue her BFA in Theatre, and concurrently studied architectural illustration and interior design. While in college and after graduation, Linnea worked in guest service at the world class Space Needle, as a tour guide in the historic Pike Place Market, and as a medical massage therapist. Linnea relocated to Bloomington in 2014, and subsequently opened her own small business, Bloomington Family Wellness, and offered services as a front of house consultant. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Public Health at Indiana University. Linnea believes strongly in sustainability, both environmental and economic, and has a passion for hospitality, ethical business practice, and health and wellness. Lake and Linnea have two young children, Annelyse and Edson.
